🇮🇹 Painting holiday in Tuscany, Italy - October 2025

Hi Reader,

Imagine spending a week painting in beautiful Tuscany!

I’m excited to announce that I’ve been invited by the Steinberg family to host a painting holiday on their beautifully restored property, Hortulanus, this October. Located in the Seggianese region in Tuscany, it’s an absolutely gorgeous place in the perfect location.

Overlooking Castle Potentino and opening its gaze on the pretty village of Seggiano, Hortulanus is a tranquil paradise of beautiful gardens and century old olive trees. Sounds like a dream come true!

We’ll have 5 days to paint on location and on their extensive property. We’ll explore and sketch in beautiful villages, paint Tuscan landscapes, and take our sketchbooks into tranquil gardens. There’s also a pretty artist studio converted from their limonaia / glasshouse. Each day I’ll guide you step-by-step with painting demos and lessons, and encourage you to explore your own artistic path. We’ll be a very small group, so there will be plenty of one-on-one time with me.

Of course there will be cultural experiences too, like wine tasting, pizza or pasta making, and we might even be there in time for the olive harvest. Everything will be taken care of, so we can just concentrate on painting.

You’ll know that I’ve been hosting painting holidays in France since 2022. For me these days are now some of the best of each year. Art retreats are a time to enjoy the company of a small group of like-minded artists and take time out from your normal life to fully immerse yourself in your passion. And they are so much fun, full of laughter and happiness.

For this retreat spaces are limited to just 10 participants. So make sure you book your spot soon.

I look forward to painting with you in Italy. Any questions, just reply to this email.

I hope to see you in October!

Hi Reader, This summer I've been fascinated by the meadows around my home. The grass is high and full of texture and colour that changes week by week. To capture this I could paint lots and lots of lines and marks, then paint the flowers with gouache, but it's more interesting and fun to use splashes, scratches and salt to create the texture. Read on... Pass the salt One way I enjoy adding marks and texture to my watercolours is by adding salt into the wet wash. I don't use anything fancy,...
